OutBound Forum is a free community for curious high school students and lifelong learners who enjoy great books, history, politics, economics, religion, educational travel, and thoughtful conversation. Whether you plan to travel with us, or are coming for the community and discussions, our educational expeditions begin long before we board any plane. These three evening seminars provide the historical, intellectual, and cultural foundation that transforms travel into a deeper learning experience. Ideas Worth Exploring. Places Worth Seeing. For details on meeting dates, please email me at LMAHS.Richardson@gmail.com or text me at 208-534-1884.

OutBound Forum is a community for students and adults who believe that ideas are worth exploring. Through thoughtful discussions, classic literature, history, economics, religion, politics, and educational travel, we seek to better understand the world and our place in it.

Our gatherings bring together curious people who enjoy asking difficult questions, reading great books, visiting remarkable places, and learning from one another. Whether we're discussing Plato, walking the streets of Florence, exploring the pyramids of Egypt, or examining today's challenges through the lens of history, our goal is the same: to cultivate wisdom, meaningful friendships, and lives of purpose.

If you love thoughtful conversation, lifelong learning, and adventure, you'll feel at home at OutBound Forum.

Itineraries

6:00 hour

World culture: Thailand

Gain a foundation for understanding one of Southeast Asia's most fascinating nations. This seminar explores Thailand's history from the ancient kingdoms of Sukhothai and Ayutthaya to the modern constitutional monarchy. Participants will examine Buddhism's profound influence on Thai society, the country's unique cultural traditions, relationships with neighboring nations, and the historical events that have shaped modern Thailand. By the time we arrive, temples, palaces, markets, and everyday interactions will have far greater meaning because of the historical context behind them.

7:00 hour

Underdogma by Michael Prell

Why do we instinctively side with the underdog? Through guided discussion of Michael Prell's thought-provoking book, we'll examine how assumptions about power, justice, and victimhood influence our thinking. Participants will learn to evaluate ideas on their merits rather than through simplistic narratives, developing habits of thoughtful and independent judgment.

8:00 hour

Understanding Worldviews

Every society is built upon underlying beliefs about truth, morality, human nature, and the purpose of life. Using the Nehemiah Institute's worldview framework, participants will explore five major domains of cultural perception and learn how foundational ideas influence government, economics, education, family life, religion, and social institutions. This seminar provides practical tools for recognizing worldviews, understanding cultural differences, and evaluating civilizations based on the ideas that shape them.
